INDO-UK FELLOWSHIP 2018-19 REPORT
It was a wonderful experience of INDO-UK fellowship in Breast oncoplasty and reconstruction.
I had the opportunity to visit the Breast Service Department at Royal Stoke University Hospital, NHS trust, Stoke on Trent, UK (1st Aug 2019 to 22nd Aug 2019).
During my stay, I was involved in clinical activities, observed surgical procedures. I was involved in all aspects of patient care in a surgical department like ward rounds, surgical procedures in the OR, outpatient clinic and the MDTs.
Breast screening services, under 30 clinics, breast cancer work up modalities, preoperative counselling and planning, day care surgeries, Breast cancer nursing services, multidisciplinary team meetings were the few services which astonished me during this fellowship.
I was able to observe various oncoplastic techniques like perforator based reconstructions, prosthesis based reconstruction (Acellular Dermal Matrix-Braxon), therapeutic mammoplasty, Image guided localisation of breast tumor by Wire guided localisation and Magnetic Seed guided localisation etc.
I found it very useful and motivating, both in terms of clinical and scientific work. I like to thank Dr Sankaran Narayanan, Dr Soni Soumian, Dr Shekhar Marla and the entire team of Breast Service Unit of Royal Stoke Hospital for giving me an opportunity to work and gain more experience in Breast Surgery.
Co-operation and hospitality I received in Royal Stoke was wonderful. I was able to expand my knowledge and surgical experience by doing this training fellowship.
I once again thank Association of Breast Surgeons of India and INDO-UK Breast Forum for giving me this opportunity to pursue this fellowship.
